Have a great day and pursue your dreams okay!
I am simply glappy that it is now spring, my favourite season. But what I really want to say is thanks to everyone for all your support and encouragement with my comics. Seriously if it wasn't for you I don't think I'd be doing this. Even when you do a simple thing like press Like on Commander Broccoli's facebook page or see me somewhere and say "Heyyy Captain Broccoli", it means a lot to me and you need to know that.
Have a great day and pursue your dreams okay!

I'm thinking I might do some CB t-shirts in the future. Maybe!
On Sunday morning my son got up and told me a dream he had. His dream made me realize that I need to totally revamp my business focus and direction. This may sound strange, but I listen to my kids with an open mind because this same son, when he was 3 basically predicted a tornado not too far from where we lived. So needless to say, I listen when they talk!
Last week we watched a youtube video of a woman from New York who lived in a 90 square foot apartment and she talked all about how she lived in such a small space. We are currently needing to downsize in our housing as well so we found that video very helpful. My son told me that he dreamed I was going to have lunch with that woman, who is also an artist and a writer, and we were going to have art for lunch. But she had done her art wrong and it wasn't dry yet and she was sad. He said that it was made with all kinds of different things, like acrylic paint, pastels, oil paint. So instead, she started to colour on huge colouring pages with markers. Anyone know what this might be about? It made me think about my art business, Nickel Creative. I have been doing too many things. I do my weekly comic strip, graphic design, I'm working on a portfolio for a children's book, I teach art with a friend and I do acrylic paintings among other things. I realized I have not been able to do any of them thoroughly and have not seen the results that I expected. I immediately knew that this had to do with the part of his dream where her art was done wrong and with all kinds of media and she was sad. Me too in a way. Still happy as heck to be doing my art full time, but sad that its still where it's at. So I've been thinking about this and praying for direction. I'm starting to think that getting my comics out there to newspaper editors is what I need to focus on right now. I'll keep you posted on how its going. I have a lot of work to do... joining comic forums, finishing my character outlines, writing up a query letter to editors and sending them out all over Canada and internationally. Once this gets rolling I'll be able to focus on the next thing in line. |
